On 11th February 2026, the Entrepreneurial Breakfast “Zasavje in the Value Chains of Hydrogen Technologies (STEP)” took place in Zagorje ob Savi, bringing together companies, development institutions and key stakeholders to discuss the role of the Zasavje region in strategic technology value chains, with a particular focus on hydrogen technologies.
The event was organised by the Center za pravični prehod Zasavja (RRA Zasavje) and the GZS Zasavska gospodarska zbornica, and is directly embedded in the implementation of the Territorial Just Transition Plan for the Zasavje coal mining region. The discussion focused on restructuring the regional economy towards higher added value, technological diversification and decarbonisation, with hydrogen technologies identified as one of the key critical technologies under the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP).
The programme featured contributions from the STEP Slovenia National Contact Point and regional actors active in hydrogen and related technologies, including ReCatalyst, Center DUBT, and KEKO oprema d.o.o..

As part of the programme, META Circularity presented NACHIP and the upcoming NACHIP Open Calls planned for 2026, inviting small and medium-sized enterprises to engage in hydrogen value chains and explore concrete pathways for development and investment support.
The event concluded with a discussion on how companies, knowledge institutions and support mechanisms can work together to strengthen Zasavje’s capacity to develop, test and integrate hydrogen technologies, and strategically position the region within national, European and global value chains.
